Course Overview:

Discover the power of implant placement upon live patients, in a highly mentored environment! This is the single most effective step you can take in integrating dental implants into your own practice. This 18 CE course is book-ended with treatment planning and debrief sessions that offer tremendous additional value; in addition to learning more from your own cases, you will learn a wide variety of information from your colleagues.

The cases presented differ according to the patient’s needs. Focused topics include:

  • Implant placement in preparation for anticipated restorative.
  • Diagnosis, treatment planning, placement, and postoperative critique and debriefing
    • CBCT analysis
    • Manual and guided placement
  • Real time instruction as patient treatment is in progress
    • May include regenerative procedures, intra-crestal sinus grafts, ridge expansion immediate placement, custom emergence, provisionalization, etc.
  • Corrective counsel and re-direction as needed to stay on the right path
  • Case presentations pre and post operatively of patients treated during this session

Course Objectives:

  1. Understand the importance of patient agreement and signing-off on the treatment plan and consent to proceed.
  2. Place implants on patients according to correct treatment planning concepts.
  3. Be able to use aseptic principles in all aspects of implant surgery including regenerative procedures.
  4. Actually place guided and/or non-guided implants in agreement with the treatment plan.
  5. Know how to read the CBCT to interpret vital structures and know how to avoid complications based on modern imaging technology.
  6. Be familiar with methods of creating custom emergence and guided tissue healing.
  7. Be knowledgeable about the implant surgical kit and instrumentation.

Dr. Barry Hillam

Dr. Barry Hillam is uniquely qualified to help his colleagues integrate dental implants into their own practices. He has spent a prodigious amount of time in surgery with his clients —  coaching them individually through scenarios including hard and soft tissue site preparation, placements, sinus and ridge augmentations, and full-arch solutions. Over the past decade, Dr. Hillam has taught implantology in a wide variety of settings — including as a faculty member for Implant Training Solutions, The California Implant Institute, and as a private consultant. Dr. Hillam has lectured on implant and soft tissue topics in many parts of the U.S. and abroad. He is on the advisory board of Novadontics, has worked for Hiossen Implants as a content editor, and is currently on the Nobel Biocare speaker’s list. He graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 2004, and he received his MAGD award in 2016. Dr. Hillam is passionate about the need to supplement the “how” of oral implantology with the critical theoretical elements that constitute the “what,” “why,” and “when” of the discipline — this unique approach, now taught at Roseman University, and combined with Dr. Karl Koerner’s standard of surgical excellence, will maximize clients’ ability to integrate dental implant procedures into their everyday workflow.
